You can find year-round activities available at and near Loch Leven Lodge. Lounging in the sun, swimming off the 5000 square-foot redwood deck and boat dock, or the floating swim raft are favorite summer activities. The hot spa, heated to over 100 degrees is great for relaxing after a day of hiking or skiing, or watching the stars on a moon lit night.

Fishing is best from April through June, although guests catch rainbow trout throughout the year. You can purchase a fishing license locally. Guests are welcome to use the rowboat for fishing, or a quiet ride along the shores of Donner Lake. Fall is a great time of year for fly fishing, with the Truckee River, Little Truckee River, and the upper Yuba River just minutes away.

Historic Downtown Truckee, Tahoe City, and The Village at Squaw Valley in Olympic Valley have many shops, cafes, and seasonal activities. There are many great places to visit for shopping or just strolling along and checking out the unique shops. You may want to visit the Truckee-Donner Visitors Center in the train depot and pick up a map for the walking tour of the historic buildings in downtown Truckee.

Golfers will enjoy the many local golf courses, from the smaller 9 hole courses that are lots of fun, to the 18 hole championship courses. Golf club rentals are available at most courses.

The Truckee and Donner Lake area offer fantastic hiking and mountain biking trails. Bring your bike for a 30 minute ride around the lake. Stop by the U.S. Forest Service Visitors Center, just off I-80 at Big Bend, or visit the Ranger Station in Truckee for trail maps and general information about recreational opportunities in the National Forest.

History buffs will want to check out the museum at Donner Memorial State Park, located 1.5 miles from the lodge. The State Park has hiking trails and beaches for summer and fall visitors, and cross-country skiing and snow shoeing during the winter and spring. Boat, canoe and raft rentals are available at the park.

Downhill Ski areas are as close as 10 minutes away, including Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Boreal Mountain Resort, Tahoe Donner, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Homewood.

Cross-Country skiing at North America's largest area, Royal Gorge, is only 15 minutes away. XC skiing is also available at Tahoe Donner.
